The 2011 Festival saw the Festival continue with its ever-popular mix of star names, writers and performers. Music ranged from the percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie to ‘80s rock ‘n’ roller Shakin’ Stevens. The wonderful Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain played to a sold-out audience, as did Cornwall’s own Fisherman’s Friends, giving the Festival an opening night to remember!
Speakers ranged from Ann Widdecombe to Alastair Campbell, who both gave thought provoking and entertaining talks. Sir Tim Rice discussed his extraordinary career and Professor Robert Winston gave a fascinating talk on “Bad Ideas”.
The festival was also honoured in 2011 by a visit from HRH The Countess of Wessex, who attended a presentation by Andrew Secombe, about growing up with his father Sir Harry Secombe and the memories of other children of Goon Show favourites, Peter Sellers, Michael Bentine and Spike Milligan.
